2 Hours Can Save Your Life
By Craig Ballantyne Its much easier to maintain a healthy level of low body fat than it is to lose 10-15% body fat and 30 lbs or more. But it can be done. Pick up any fitness publication these days and you will find amazing transformation pictorials. Check the timeline. It may have taken these people 3 months, 6 months, or even a year, but these people have made incredible journeys. Were they less busy than other overweight individuals? Are people too busy with appointments? If that is a problem, individuals should schedule an appointment 2-4 times per week with the gym just like it was any other business meeting. Spend a half-day on the weekend shopping for an accomplished personal trainer that can give you a program that requires only 2-4 hours per week. C'mon, 2-4 hours per week, who can't spare that? What type of exercise should you do? As mentioned, the more muscle mass you have, the more energy that will be spent at rest due to an increase resting metabolic rate. Next, you have to do lots and lots of running or biking right? Well, no, not necessarily. Aerobic exercise certainly is beneficial to a healthy cardiovascular system and is important for the performance of some sports and it is likely one of the best methods for obese individuals to lose weight. If nothing else, it should improve some health parameters. Aerobic endurance exercise has traditionally been used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes but its effects on long-term glycemic control is small. Researchers found that resistance training helped increase muscle mass and improve long-term glycemic control in an elderly type 2 diabetic population (Eriksson et al., 1997). Chronic exercise training in diabetic rats was associated with reductions in basal glycemia, and such reductions did not occur in sedentary diabetic groups (Farrell et al., 1999). Therefore, exercise programs should focus on increasing muscle mass because muscle in the prime user of blood glucose. Tremblay et al. (1994) showed that vigorous exercise (high-intensity interval training) favors negative energy and lipid balance to a greater extent than exercise of low to moderate intensity (traditional aerobic exercise). Moreover, the metabolic adaptations taking place in the skeletal muscle in response to the interval program appear to favor the process of lipid oxidation. This study compared traditional endurance training against high-intensity interval training. Even though the interval training expended less energy per training session, the subjects lost more body fat than those performing regular endurance training. If you are super busy, simply split your training time in half or thirds. A 15-minute walk two times a day plus as little as 15 minutes of resistance training can pay off. Aim to burn more and more calories every exercise session. Up the intensity! Yearn to lift 5 lbs more weight this week, or get another 2-3 reps per set. Improvement will equal results. Don't get put off by the people that do have 2 hours to train. Realize there is a point of diminishing returns...think about it, unless you are a competitive athlete, are you really getting much more from spending 45 minutes running as opposed to 30 minutes? Very soon you will realize that there is nothing to slipping in some fitness to your workday. You set goals for retirement savings, for business performance, for golf scores, why not some fitness goals? You get professional plumbing help, you have a professional cleaner clean your clothes, so what's wrong with asking a fitness professional to fine-tune your body? What one of these people can teach you in 1-2 hours is something that will last a lifetime! To be optimistic, it is simply a problem of education and exercise, moderation and muscle mass, teaching and training. For the amount of commercial time an adult sits through during an hour of prime time TV (about 15 minutes), one could easily read an article from a fitness magazine detailing and outlining a fitness regimen for success against weight gain. Surely, in this society that allows one to operate fitness equipment while watching television, there is an opportunity to fight against fat. There are 168 hours in a week. If you train, that only takes 2-4 hours, plus 1-2 hours for travel and showers, etc. That leaves you approximately 160 hours for work, friends, family, sleep, and T.V. Craig Ballantyne is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist and writes for Men's Health, Men's Fitness, Maximum Fitness, Muscle and Fitness Hers, and Oxygen magazines. His trademarked Turbulence Training fat loss workouts have been featured multiple times in Mens Fitness and Maximum Fitness magazines, and have helped thousands of men and women around the world lose fat, gain muscle, and get lean in less than 45 minutes three times per week. Planting Bulbs - Part 2 - Planting Location, Planting Depth
By Bill Prudehome With fall on the way, it is time to consider planting bulb flowers that we want for spring blooming. Bulbs are one of the best flower investments for the cost, properly cared for they will provide spring color in your garden for years. Planting Location Light is one of the key considerations when choosing the locations for your bulb plantings. Some bulbs require full sunshine others require partial shade or even complete shade. Choose your locations then choose bulbs that match the sunshine requirement of that location. Early spring bulbs can usually be planted under trees as they will commence blooming prior to the trees having their full compliment of leaves and hence creating a full shading effect. It may be noted that bulbs planted on the south side of your home will bloom ahead of the same bulbs planted on the north side of your home. In the same manner, bulbs planted in a valley will bloom later than bulbs planted on a hill. This is because cold air falls and will fill a valley area, while hot air rises and will aid in warming the bulbs. Planting Depth Spring flowering bulbs should be planted at a depth of two to three times their height, which for most of the larger bulbs such as tulips and daffodils that equates to a planting depth of approximately 8 inches deep. Smaller bulbs will be planted at a depth of three to four inches deep. The planting depth is measured form the base of the bulb, resting on the soil in the hole or trench. For summer flowering bulbs you should consult the specifications on the packaging as summer bulbs have substantially different planting depth requirements. Daffodils, hyacinths and tulips must be planted with the root plate pointing downward and the top or nose of the bulb pointing upward. It is recommended that to obtain the best planting that you till the entire bed to loosen the soil to the correct depth. Insert the bulbs into the soil and then cover with fresh soil. Tilling and loosening the soil in the entire bed provides for much better drainage, and allows for a better mixture of fertilizer with the soil. By preparing the bed in this manner the planting will last for many years whereas in many types of soils individual bulb planters do not work well, if they work at all. Pharmaceutical Industry
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sharon_White] Sharon White The consumer has almost no role in purchase decision making. Further, there is an unusual level of control to the industry either by regulations or self imposed practices. The political analysis of this industry has shown increasing political links of Russia with the west support the adaptation of western business methods that neutralizes the access to Baltic States. China is approaching the deadlines of World Trade organization to open up its economy sector by sector after joining the organization. The war against terrorism is developing a new world order. Democracy is yet to come for some states where pharmaceutical industry has major role to play. Therefore pharmaceutical industry has grown its need for customers. Economic analysis recently provided has demonstrated China is expected to become the fifth largest drug market in the world by 2010. Indian Pharmaceutical Industry is growing at about 8 to 9 percent annually. Recent increase in oil prices has certain effects on corporate share prices where it make difficult to pharmaceutical companies to in vest in R&D. One of the main demand industry is seeking is to shorten the time taken to get full approval to market products since the invention of formulas. This is because in some cases where manufactures experience the risks of patents getting expired even before the product is launched to the market. It can be expected in tighter regulatory pressure for developing countries for pirated production particularly with their increasing commitment to WTO. Price regulation schemes are well imposed in many countries to protect the consumer from high bargaining power of patented products. The debate will continue between animal right campaigners and pharmaceutical companies for using animals in drug testing. The article was produced by the writer of masterpapers.com.

Koi Pond and Waterfall Builders: What You Need to Know
By Douglas Hoover Before installing a water feature you need to ask yourself several important questions first: What is your budget? How much can you spend on the entire project? You could spend $3,000 on a water feature and find out you still need an additional $1,000-1,500 for plants and amenities, such as a deck, gazebo, walkways, fish or
landscape lighting in the pond, waterfall and lawn. Other possible extras are a biological filter, auto-fill for pond, skimmer, back-flushable bio-filter, and more. How big is a water feature? If you are building your own, then structurally size is not that big an issue! I would charge the same price for a 3-foot high waterfall as I would for a 5-foot; the same for a 3 by 5-foot pond as a 4 by 6. There is only a $200 difference in cost between the 1,000 and 2,000 square feet of concrete shell surface. Your main concern about size should be space, not cost. How much of your yard can you sacrifice? Even if the space between your house and the property line fence is limited, a water feature can be incorporated. Small ponds 1 to 3 feet deep can facilitate a sump pump located within the pond. Even though a sump pump is inexpensive, it consumes much more energy than an above-ground pump. A pond any deeper than 3 feet requires an exterior pump for better accessibility and maintenance, and at a higher cost. But they pay for themselves in a short period of time with the energy savings. Also, larger ponds require greater filtration, more cleaning and maintenance. The size of the waterfalls will determine the size of the pump needed. The higher the waterfalls, the bigger the pump needed to supply the water and the greater the cost for electricity. Height creates head pressure which requires more energy and is the major factor in operating cost. How much entertaining will you do? Will you need a deck? If so, how big? You might consider placing a pond next to an existing deck. Many people do just the opposite, they build a pond and then construct a deck beside it. In this case, you can take advantage of an existing deck and construct an open stairway (stair bridge) to
span the pond. This affords unique access to the opposite side. Will you have adequate room for table and chairs? Do you want a spa? Or a fire pit or barbeque? Enough lawn for games? Where do you spend most of your outdoor leisure time? That is the area for your waterfall! The waterfall will bring you the most enjoyment, therefore it should be located closest to the area where you
plan to spend most of your time out of doors. Do you want to see or hear the waterfall from indoors? Consider adding an exterior patio or French doors to your house to access your water feature area. Do you wish to have fish and other aquatic creatures? Long term, a properly maintained nitrogen cycle costs less than maintaining a pond that uses chlorine and other chemicals. Fish, plants and proper bacteria are needed for healthy pond and nitrogen cycle. Once properly established, a healthy fish pond is virtually maintenance free. Are you willing to remove or replace certain trees or bushes to enhance the waterfall and pond? Some trees have very aggressive root systems that can literally move concrete as they grow, causing cracking and upheaval. Certain trees can
contribute a great deal of debris to the water feature that fouls the water and may cause premature failure of the filter system. What type of rock do you want? A commonly used rock is cobble stone. However, because of the round shapes, water rolls over the surfaces and creates a minimum of sound or visual effect. In contrast, irregular, angular, sharp-edged
granite or similar rock creates turbulent conditions similar to white water as it flowsover the edges. The greater the white water the more sound is produced. Also, a side benefit is the aeration of water which benefits fish and discourages the production of algae. However, do not attempt to match the color of rock with the decor of the house, brick and other features of your home. Stay natural contrast is good! What about electrical supply for the pump and equipment? In 20 years I have never seen the electrical costs for supplying power to the equipment site exceed $1,200, and the average is less than $400. What about a water supply for an automatic water leveling system? Water is very accessible in any household and getting it to the water feature site is a minor expense. Simply tap into an outside water faucet. There are hundreds of questions that arise in the course of a water feature project. It is best that most of these questions are answered prior to commencement of construction, it could save you hundreds of dollars by avoiding mistakes. Look before you leap and research before you weep. Happy koi, peace and joy. Douglas C. Weight Loss Begins from the Neck Up, in Your Mind - How to Think Like a Naturally Thin Person
By Rosa Smith-Montanaro Thoughts are powerful, they are a reflection of the quality of your life. If you want to make a change in your life, then you first have to change what is being said in your mind. Every single thought causes a reaction in the body. Think about a lemon, imagine biting into a wedge of a ripe lemon and tasting the sour, tangy juice. Notice the salvia forming in your mouth right now? We call this a psycho somatic response. It is when the body reactions to the minds thoughts. There have been numerous studies on this topic including the respected field of psychoneuroimmuology. The mind and the body are interdependent, they respond to each other. What is the difference between a naturally thin person and a chronic dieter? A naturally thin person might have a higher metabolism. Usually not that much higher, observe them around food you will see something else. You will notice that naturally thin people have a different perspective of the role that food plays in their lives. There are limited things you can do to change your biogenetics, but there is an area you have total control over. You are in control of your mind. More precisely you are in control of your thoughts. At any given moment you have thousands of opportunities to think healthy thoughts, do you? Or are you think limiting, disempowering, self defeating thoughts? I have found as a weight loss coach that the issue in weight management is mind management. Manage how you think and you will manage your weight. What if it is that simple? What if just by changing the way you think you could lose weight? If this statement intrigues you, become curious and ask yourself how does a naturally thin person think? There is a recipe for thinking thin, here are patterns that naturally thin people have in common. One common theme is naturally thin people see themselves in a thin body. They imagine how they will look in an outfit. They also reinforce this by speaking to themselves in positive ways to encourage this image. When you use your imagination, you activate the unconscious mind. It will act on what you think about most. Naturally thin people imagine their clothes sliding on, or being loose. Start to think like a thin person by envisioning yourself looking healthy and fit, then ask yourself what would it be like to live in this body? Get excited about the possibility and say to yourself nothing tastes as good as a fit body feels. Another distinction is a naturally thin person will only eat when their body indicates it is hungry. They use food to eliminate the hunger pain. Food is a source of fuel, not comfort. Children do this all of the time, they will beg you for food, and then they will take a few bites and announce I am finished. Chronic dieters have been brainwashed to think they have to clean their plates. We call this an empty habit. It is a result of repeating the same act until it becomes an unconscious habit. The difference is naturally thin people developed the habit to stop the moment they are satisfied not full. The food on the plate has nothing to do with being finished. Chronic dieters think: I cant waste food. Think like a naturally thin person and say to yourself: No way, I will feel sick if I eat all of that food. Naturally thin people stay thin because their comfort zone in regards to their weight is very close to their ideal weight. If they gain a few pounds a red flag goes up and they cut back until their weight returns to normal. They are aware of their bodies. As you lose weight, change your comfort zone to not exceed it by a few pounds. Naturally thin people move more than the average person. If you watch them they walk fast, take the stairs, park further. Lifestyle movement adds up quickly. Find opportunities to move. Weight management is a lifestyle not an event; naturally thin people dont live to eat, they eat to live. They dont say forget it this isnt working I quit. They eat foods that give them energy and take away the hungry feeling so they can return to what they were doing before they felt hungry. Take the time to think like a thin person and see how your body changes. It may not be the fastest way to lose weight, but it will last a lifetime. Rosa Smith-Montanaro is an author of Mind Over Platter: Train your brain to think thin http://www.MindOverPlatterBook.com and the founder of http://www.MindOverPlatter.com, a virtual weight loss coaching program. Asthma - Definition, Cause and Triggering Factors
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell] Michael Russell What is it and who gets it? Asthma is a condition whereby the smaller airways of the lungs constrict (or narrow) from time to time, causing typical symptoms. The duration and extent of narrowing vary and they determine the degree of severity of the disease. Asthma affects people of all ages, however, it tends to starts in childhood and runs in family. Having said that, certain asthma sufferers have no family members who have asthma. What are the symptoms of asthma? Typical symptoms are a cough, wheezing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. The severity of asthma can usually be classified according to the degree of symptoms. Each episode of symptoms may last from a hour to several days if left untreated. Death is a known but uncommon cause of severe untreated asthma. Symptoms of mild asthma: Episodes of symptoms only during exercise or triggered by a chest or an upper respiratory infection. You are usually symptom- free between episodes. Symptoms of moderate asthma: You display symptoms from time to time. Symptoms tend to be worst at night and early in the morning. You may be awakened at night with a tight chest and coughing. Symptoms of severe asthma: You have symptoms on most days. You may find it hard to talk. Frequent hospitalization for asthma is also one of the criteria for severe asthma. What causes asthma? Asthma occurs as a result of inflammation in the lower, smaller airways. No one is entirely sure why the inflammation occurs. As a consequence of the inflammation, the sensitive airway constricts, making it hard for air to get in and out of the lungs. This leads to symptoms like wheezing, breathless, chest tightness and a cough. Not only that, the inflammation also stimulates the airway to pump out extra mucus, which causes the airway to obstruct further. What are the exacerbating factors of asthma or what can make it worse? Asthma symptoms may be triggered by certain factors. Occasionally, we do not know why it becomes worse. It is possible to avoid certain triggers to help to reduce symptoms. Identifiable triggers include: Exercise. Exercise is a known trigger for asthma. Having said that, you should not refrain yourself from doing sports and exercises. They are actually good for your asthma. It is possible to prevent asthma symptoms while exercising by using an inhaler before you exercise. Pollen and moulds. This is particular evident during season of hay fever. Infection. Viral respiratory tract infections like flu or common cold are common triggers. Smoking and air pollution. Some medicine. Certain medicines are known to constrict smaller airways in the lungs, they include aspirin, beta-blockers and some eye drops for glaucoma. House dust mites. Some food. We do not know why certain food can bring up symptoms of asthma. Food like nuts, eggs and fish can sometimes trigger off an asthma attack in people who have known asthma. However, this is not a common trigger. Emotion. Asthma has nothing to do with your 'nerve'. However, certain emotions like stress, laughing, anxiety can all cause symptoms of asthma. Michael Russell

How Accurate Is the Often Quoted Gastric Bypass Risk Figure Of 40 Percent?
By Donald Saunders Not surprisingly anybody contemplating gastric bypass surgery does not simply want to know what the risks of surgery are, but also wants to know what their chances are of encountering these risks. The general answer that most patients receive is that they run about a 40 percent chance of running into complications either during surgery or in the months immediately following their operation. But just how accurate is this figure? Well, according to a recently released report it is pretty accurate. In a study of more than 2,500 insurance claims submitted by gastric bypass patients who underwent surgery during 2001 and 2002 it was found that just over 20 percent of patients encountered complications during surgery and this figure rose to 40 percent when looking at claims covering a period of up to six months following surgery. However, is this really an accurate reflection of what patients can expect today? In looking at the results of this study you have to start by considering the complications which the study took into account in its findings. These included such things as leakage and strictures arising directly from surgery as well as dumping syndrome, vomiting, reflux and diarrhea in the post-operative period. The four post-operative complications noted here accounted for nearly half of all the complications seen and, in the vast majority of cases, were minor, transitory and did not require medical treatment. In other words, they were nothing more than the normal and expected result of weight loss surgery and might be compared to the risk of encountering a stiff and sore arm after a vaccination. In addition, you have to consider the timeframe for the collection of the data used in this study. In 2001 and 2002 when the study data was collected many hospitals and surgical centers were only just beginning to perform weight loss operations and there were few, if any, agreed standards. Most of the surgery conducted was also open surgery and this form of surgery lent itself to complications such as leakage and strictures. Today, the number of weight loss surgeries being performed has increased dramatically and laparoscopic and robotic surgeries have come very much into vogue, as has gastric banding and such procedures as adjustable laparoscopic gastric banding, which was only approved for use in the USA in 2001. These procedures do of course themselves carry risks, but these are quite different both in nature and frequency to those seen in open surgery. Currently about 60 percent of all weight loss surgery is carried out laparoscopically and this figure is likely to rise rapidly within the next two or three years to over 90 percent. So what is the true figure for the risk of gastric bypass surgery today? Well, we don't really know because no current figures at presently available. What we can say however is that it is certainly a lot lower than the 40 percent figure which is frequently quoted. GastricBypassFacts.info provides information on all aspects of obesity and gastric bypass surgery including gastric bypass risk and specific hazards such as the gastric bypass risk of binge eating. Looking for a Loan at Low Interest Rate? Read this First
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Jones]Mary Jones Getting a loan is not a tough task today. You will be offered with numerous amounts of lenders. But the uniqueness lies in getting a loan which offers you the best loan amount at a very low interest rate. Low interest rate doesnt mean that the loan will have other charges with strict repayments. A low interest loan is a good deal only when all the other aspects of the loan are also favourable to you. Finding this kind of loan is a very difficult task. To make your task easier and help you find a low rate loan, read the following points. When looking for low rate loans, there are several points that you should keep in mind. The first thing is the interest rate. Keep looking for lenders and collect their interest rates. Its important to visit as many lenders as you can so as to get a wide range of variety. The more you will search the more variety you will get and thus the chances of getting a good loan deal increase. Another vital factor that you should consider while seeking a low rate loan is the loan term. A low rate loan with a short repayment term would not be a good deal. Instead, look for lenders who are offering low interest rates with short monthly payments and longer repayment term. Low rate loans will be offered to you in both secured and unsecured forms. Take special care when you are taking a secured loan. Every lender will ask for different types of collateral. If you will offer low value collateral, you may not get as much fund as you needed. High value collateral will definitely fetch you more fund. The repayment option also needs a thorough attention from your side. The lender might ask you to repay in a particular way only. First see your situation. Find out which repayment option will suit you the best and then decide and make any commitment. Apart from these you should also find out if the lender is asking for any hidden charges. You should make all this query beforehand only so that after getting the loan you are not burdened by these extra charges. All these points discussed so far needs a lot of researching and consulting numerous lenders. This research is possible only through one source, i.e., internet. Internet provides you a huge detail of hundreds of lenders. There you can go through different lenders and get their varied quotes. Your task becomes easier with this as you do not have to visit lenders personally. This way you can save both your time and money. A low rate interest loan offers you money in a very convenient and stress free manner. You can use this loan to for various purposes such as debt consolidation, as a fund for your business, large purchase or any other purpose. Low rate loan is a great way to satisfy your financial needs. Mary Jones is an expert financial advisor. Why Have Wedding Favors at Your Wedding
By Yolanda Nash These days, it is customary to give wedding favors to guests when you get married. A wedding favor is a gift given to guests to thank them for coming to your wedding celebrations and can be anything from personalized candles or soaps and bath products to bottle openers or silver pen stands. In fact, anything you can think of that your guests would like as a memento can make a nice wedding favor. It is not compulsory to provide wedding favors but a lot of couples do feel that it makes a nice touch. Most couples decide that giving wedding favors is a great thing to do. First of all, it gives your guests a memento of what has hopefully been a magical day. Second, wedding favors can be inexpensive and the cost of weddings can be high enough anyway. Third, the tradition of giving wedding favors is a nice way of thanking your guests for attending your wedding. If you are getting married while on vacation, a good idea for wedding favors could be beach candle holders or something themed that will evoke great memories of your special day, and something your guests can use while they are with you. Try to order your wedding favors in plenty of time, allowing for possible postal delays or last minute problems. Weddings are stressful enough to plan without ordering items at the last minute and having crossed fingers, hoping they will arrive on time! Remember that a wedding favor does not have to be costly. You can get favors for just over a dollar each if you are on a tight budget. If your budget is more flexible or you have only a few guests, of course, you can push the boat out and get something more expensive. More expensive wedding favors could include crystal and silver perfume bottles for the ladies and silver flasks for the men, or a set of large photo frames, maybe one set per couple. The sky is the limit and it is acceptable to give anything as a wedding favor. Even beautiful crystal ornaments can be yours for a couple of dollars each so it is well worth checking what kind of favors are available and what you can afford. An interesting idea for a wedding favor can be silver place card holders in the shape of something wedding themed, for example, a wedding cake or a bell or heart, so you can display the guests names for the wedding meal and they can keep the placeholder after the event. Some favors are available in any quantity and others have a minimum order amount, for example, twelve or fifteen. Whatever you give your guests as a wedding favor, they will accept it graciously and be reminded of your special day forever. That makes it worthwhile giving wedding favors, since they are inexpensive but will be very much treasured by your wedding guests. Yolanda is the owner of Yolandas Wedding Favors. She sells many different types of wedding favors such as, love glass coasters, two peas in a pod salt and pepper shakers and many many more. Yolandas Wedding Favors also carries many different wedding accessories and wedding gifts such as guest books, unity candles, ring pillows, bridesmaid gifts, groomsmen gifts and many many more. 10 Steps to Getting the Most Out of Job Fairs
By Bonnie Lowe Many job seekers tend to overlook job fairs. They can be crowded, busy, competitive and confusing events. But they offer you the opportunity to contact many potential employers all within one place, and they can help you land a job.
Here's what you need to do to get the most out of these events:
1. Do advance research. Your goal is to target the most promising employers at upcoming job fairs. To do that, you need to know who those employers are and what they offer. Usually, the promotional materials or advertisements for job fairs will list participating employers and the general types of jobs they have open. Get online and search for information about the companies you are interested in. Knowing more about the companies than the other job seekers who visit their booths will help you make a memorable impression. The more you know, the better.
2. Bring enough rsums. Bring at least 25 copies of your rsum (more if it's a large event).
3. Be prepared to fill out applications. Most companies will not accept a rsum instead of an application. So even if you provide them with a nice rsum, you'll probably be asked to fill out an application form, too. Be sure to bring a pen and a "cheat sheet" with the information you'll need to complete job applications on the spot. This is better than taking the applications home and sending them back later, as many job seekers will do. You'll beat them to the punch!
4. Dress for success. First impressions are important. Just because job fairs tend to be friendly, informal events, don't be too casual. Dress and act professionally, be enthusiastic, and remember to smile.
5. Arrive early. Pick up a booth-location map and plan your route. By arriving early, you may be able to get in and out before it gets too crowded. Visit your targeted companies first, then "shop around" and do some networking.
6. Think "Quality" over "Quantity." It's much better to spend quality time talking with only a few, well-targeted employers who are looking for your specific skills, than to drop off your rsum at every booth you see.
7. Be prepared for interviews. Some companies may want to do short, on-the-spot interviews at the job fair. Be prepared to talk about your best selling points, the assets and skills you will bring to the company. Doing research, as suggested in Step 1, will help you to design your answers to meet the companies' specific needs. As the interview is wrapping up, remember to ask what the next steps are.
8. Keep track of where you submit your rsums. Collect business cards and make a list of the companies you apply for. Jot notes about conversations you have with representatives or topics discussed during interviews. This will help you when following up later.
9. Send thank-you letters. Send thank-you letters within 24-48 hours to each of the companies/representatives you spoke with. Even if there was no real interview, doing this will help you to stand out in their minds among the hundreds of job seekers who visited their booth during the job fair. Tell them how much you appreciated the time they took to talk with you and answer your questions. Mention the name or location of the fair and the positions you discussed, and reiterate your interest in working for their companies.
10. Follow up. Depending on their answers to your "what are the next steps" question (see Step 7), follow up appropriately with the companies for which you applied.
Follow these steps, and that busy, crowded job fair may just land you the job of your dreams! Is Email Marketing Right For Your Business
By Lisa Sequera Deciding whether or not email marketing is a good idea for your business can be a difficult process. The concept of email marketing is very simple to understand the process of determining whether or not it is right for your business can be significantly more complicated. This is because you have to consider a number of different factors before making your decision. You should consider your target audience and their propensity to use the Internet, whether or not your message can be effectively states in an email and whether or not your message is likely to be misinterpreted as spam. All of these factors are important and can help you determine whether or not email marketing is right for your business. One of the most important factors to consider when deciding whether or not to invest your money, energy and time into email marketing is your target audience and how likely they are to use the Internet regularly. This is important because an email marketing campaign is not worthwhile if members of your target audience are not likely to use the Internet to purchase or research the products or services you offer. Even if the use the Internet for other purposes it is not worthwhile because they will not be likely to become online customers for your products or services. However, if you have a target audience who is very likely to use the Internet to purchase the products or services you offer and to research these items, an email marketing campaign is a good idea. In this case it is absolutely worthwhile because you will be providing information which the members of your target audience will find useful and which they may already be looking for elsewhere. Next you should consider the products and services you offer in an attempt to determine whether or not your message can be effectively stated in an email. This is important because if you offer a product or service which is difficult to explain the emails you use for marketing are not likely to be understood or well received by the recipients of your email distribution list. This is important because you want to be able to convince potential customers of the need for the products and services your offer, not make them feel more confused. Finally, an important concept to consider is the possibility that your email messages will be viewed as spam. This is a very important concept because emails which are viewed as spam are not likely to be well received by the recipients and may not ever even make it to the recipients if their spam filters tag these emails as spam. Even if the emails do reach the intended recipients many Internet users have grown accustomed to weeding out spam rather quickly and will be quick to delete, without reading first, emails which are suspected to be spam. In determining whether or not your emails are likely to be viewed as spam, it is important to consider the subject of your business and therefore the emails you send out. This is important because certain subjects such as weight loss pills are likely to be viewed as spam more quickly than other items. If you are in the business of marketing products or services which would likely cause your emails to be deemed spam, orchestrating an email marketing campaign may not be worthwhile. Cell Phone Ring Tones - 4 Steps to Choose your Ringtone Service
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Kimathi]Mark Kimathi You may wonder, why subscribe to a cell phone ring tone service while you can search the web for a free ring tone downloads? But Im you are aware you get what you pay for. BBC recently reported that the term "Free Ring tones" is one of the top 7 dangerous keywords to search for in the search engines, like Google. They reported "the riskiest search terms were associated with download (such as "screen saver" and "free ringtone") and file sharing. This means searching under these categories returned a substantial proportion of dangerous sites" Basically what this means is that as you search for a free cell phone ring tone you many end up with softwares that install into your computer without your permission. These softwares referred to as malware include programs that spy on how you surf the web and some even steal your login passwords. Does the adage "Buy cheap, Buy twice" ring a bell what about "There is nothing for free?" For quality copyright complaint as well as wide selection of cell phone ring tones for your mobile phone it is best to subscribe to a ring tone service. But with so many services available how do you pick what is best for you? Here we look at a fairly reasonable way to narrow your choices. First and foremost get to know your needs. Your phone is primarily for communication. So give first priority to this function. Different cell phone services allow different ring tone providers. So select a good cell phone plan and you will automatically narrow the ring tones available to you albeit slightly. Secondly, consider the type of handset you have. Different cellular phone handsets can download only some type of ring tones. The newer versions of mobile phones can download all types of ring tones. But at times, when you are flossing the very latest cell phone you may not be able to use some ring tone provider because the phone model has not been added to the system yet. So you may have to wait a couple of weeks. The concern though is with those with older models of phones. There are basically three kinds of ring tones, monophonic ring tone, polyphonic ring tones and True or Real tones. Older mobile phone may not be capable of downloading and playing true tones and to some extent the poly ring tones. This however does not mean you need to change your handset. There is always a wide selection of cellular phone ring tones. Some handsets take if even further. You can set a ring tone for different callers. One for you better half, one for your mother and you sure cannot miss one for your mother-in-law. With your cellular service provider and mobile phone handset having narrowed your choice; the third thing you need to do is to identify your style. Its not every one that wants the Akon hip hop tones as their ring tone. Always keep in mind the primary reasons for a ring tone is to identify your phone when it rings in a crowd. So whats the use if, half of the crowd has the same ring tone of the latest hit song? The cell phone ring tone of your choice should obviously be audible for the environments you usually are in. For example music ring tones are not easily audible in noisy environments. Try to avoid the irritating types. Yeah, Crazy Frog ring tone may be your style, but it really can attract some sneers. Last but not least your cell phone ring tone service of choice should be easy to unsubscribe from. Usually they simply allow you to text a number and you are automatically unsubscribed. When all else is equal, a few complimenting ring tones, can sway your decision; especially if you get more than ring tone. Living in the U.S.A? Get high quality cell phone ring tones with this offer now because you also get 15 complimentary ring tones. Christmas Gift Top Tips
By Doug Mouncey Christmas gifts are one of the key attractions of Christmas. As a parent, Christmas may be a giving you a headache because you need to know what is the most popular Christmas gifts are for kids. Christmas Gifts are quite a difficult thing to choose. Christmas gifts are more about the sentiment than the price tag. Christmas gifts are not hard to find, since during the holiday seasons, there are lots of options for you. I would have to agree that homemade christmas gifts are a great idea and friends and family absolutely love them. Make sure your homemade Christmas gifts are practical. It doesn't have to be expensive and it doesn't have to be huge as long as this year's Christmas gifts are right on target. Personal Christmas gifts are becoming more and more popular each year. These Christmas gifts are great for the holidays and stuffing the stockings. Wines and cigars as Christmas gifts are bound to strike the right chord for the men folk. To make your loved ones feel special Christmas gifts are ideal. When it comes to Christmas gifts, many parents have no idea what the most popular Christmas gifts are for that year. But Christmas gifts are reciprocal; one cannot under-buy, one cannot be outdone. Most Christmas gifts are physical objects, capable of being wrapped and set under the tree. Children's Christmas gifts are probably the most exciting type of presents to shop for during the festive period, and are often the most affordable, too. Christmas gifts are a gesture of showing our love and concern for those who are special. In most of the world, Christmas gifts are given at night on Christmas Eve, or in the morning on Christmas Day. Most exchange Christmas gifts and decorate their homes with holly, mistletoe, and Christmas trees, under which the Christmas gifts are stored. In fact, inexpensive handmade Christmas gifts are often the most cherished items under the tree. For most of the world, Christmas gifts are given at night on Christmas Eve (24 December) or alternatively in the morning on Christmas Day. The best christmas gifts are always the unusual and different rather than the socks from Aunt Jessica or the tie from a sister Sue. Hand-made Christmas gifts are a fantastic idea and will make a lasting impression on the recipient for years to come. Before you go out and buy some baby Christmas gifts, first realize for whom those baby Christmas gifts are really for: the parents. Christmas gifts are meant to be reminders of the gifts of the wisemen to the infant Jesus. Christmas gifts are usually wrapped beautifully in bright paper, sometimes with ribbons and bows and other adornments. Christmas gifts are the most popular Christmas purchase, most adults have to buy Christmas gifts for lots of family members and close friends. A few good ideas for last minute Christmas gifts are ornaments, plants, wine baskets, hot chocolate or coffee baskets, coffee mugs, and many other ideas. Alternative Christmas gifts are a meaningful way to give a gift that keeps on giving. Unique Christmas gifts are available for all budgets; just because a gift is individual does not mean that it has to be expensive. Christmas gifts are always great but there's just something delightfully extra about receiving a gift for no particular reason. So once again I am reminded that the best Christmas gifts are not the ones you buy in the store. Skip the Boring Christmas Gifts this Year Christmas gifts are often bought last-minute and not a lot of thought is put into them. Favorite Christmas gifts are typically the most unlikely. Unlike charcoal grills and gas grills, brick barbecue grills are weather resistant and last longer than conventional grills. Unlike natural gas grills which are built with nuts and bolts or welded together, brick bbq can be constructed with mortar. These bbq grills require lots of patience and plenty of instruction manual reading to build. Tools needed to construct these barbeque grills include brackets, fire grates, trowels, metal ties, and ashtrays. If you are hands-on and love to create things from scratch, avoid buying Weber grills and other barbecue grilling devices and get your hands scraped up with the fun task of creating your own grill. Unlike cheap grills with breakable material such as cast aluminum, a properly built brick barbecue grill can last for years and years. BBQ pits are not difficult to clean at all, and require very little maintenance. If you want to move elsewhere, breaking down your brick barbeque and carrying it won't present any problem. Remember, brick grilling requires a pit to dump wood chunks and wood pieces into, so have your wood handy. Barbeque recipes using this grill can include fresh sirloin steak, filet mignon, or just plain hamburger patties. Whip out your recipes book and see which seasoning goes best with hamburgers. Paprika wouldn't go well at all, thats for sure! To conclude, a brick barbeque grill is a fine, classy addition to your backyard or campground. Fall Blooming Wildflower - Willow Aster
By Paul Wonning Aster praealtus
Family - Astereae - Aster The Willow Aster inhabits thickets, prairies, and meadows in an area ranging in the north from Manitoba, Canada to Massachusetts, South to Virginia and Maryland and west to Missouri and Kentucky. The violet blue flowers are somewhat less than an inch in diameter with a yellow center, the leaves shaped like a willow tree leaf. This fall blooming wildflower grows two to four feet tall and blooms in late September through October. The Willow Aster can be found growing with Blue Stem Goldenrod, Boneset and Small White Aster in open woodland, marginal areas, and prairie land. This wildflower may a bit too weedy looking for the perennial garden, but would be a great addition to a wildflower or prairie garden as it blooms towards the end of summer when other plants have finished. The aster family is quite large and identification of individual species can sometimes be difficult. A good wildflower field guide will be helpful. Identification can be achieved, though, if you just go over the features listed in the guide one by one, using the photos, leaf shape and placement, and any other characteristics listed. The fall blooming Willow Aster joins the many other members of the Aster Family in providing the Autumn Season with color, its violet blue flowers brightening woodlands, fencerows, roadsides and meadows. Why Santa's Marketing Works Better Than Yours!
By Sean D'Souza Santa Claus Inc. is well and profitable, right through recessions, depressions and just about any economic scenario. The reason why his marketing strategies work better than yours, is because he uses solid, dyed-in-the-wool psychology. He knows he doesn't have to use new fangled techniques, when his simple marketing has stood the test of time. If you don't believe in Santa, you'd better change your mind, because the fat man from the north pole rocks on and you too can do the same if you stick to the basics. Find out if your product or service matches up by reading the article below. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle All the Way... If you go to the heart of Santa's marketing, the one word you come away with is 'consistency'. Generation after generation have been exposed to one brand, one message, and the same powerful imagery. Just like Mercedes own the term 'luxury' and Volvo owns the term 'safety', Santa owns the word 'hope'. Every kid worth his Nintendo, hopes he's got enough points on the goodness scale to justify a mountain of gifts. Yet, most companies get tired of their own brand. They chop, change and pour thousands (if not millions) of dollars into a bottomless pit of mindless change. Take a look at McDonald's advertising, for instance. McDonald's own the word family outing yet their ads have been straying down the teenager path. Does it make sense to consistently occupy one niche? You bet it does! Families go out with their kids to McDonalds. These kids sprout into budget-conscious teenagers that hang out at McDonalds. They have kids and grandkids and guess where they all end up. At the big yellow 'M', that's where! Santa doesn't waver. His customers are kids. Like several marketers, he might have been sorely tempted to enter the gift market. With bad advice, he would have tried to get to teenagers, adults and everyone. Can you see the magic still working? Even the tiniest of niches is huge and niches have a way of expanding by themselves. At the end of the day, it's the consistency that takes the jingle all the way to the bank. Too many companies lose focus and give you seven reasons why you should buy from them. Santa sticks to one: Be a 'good' kid or you can keep hoping! You Can Spot Him in the Middle of a Crowded Sky Do you know anyone who comes to visit on a sleigh in the middle of the night? With reindeer and gifts? The reason why Santa stands out so vividly in our memories is because he's different. The postman does the same thing, but leaves without the flourish. It's really important to work out how your marketing message differs. Santa's core marketing term is not built solely on consistent branding but also on a very hard-nosed differentiation. Too much communication out there fits in with what's safe. Customers have just one slot in their mind. You have to enter that slot at such an obtuse angle that they remember you for life. Rose Richards runs Office Doctor. The term that set her apart from all the rest of the administration crowd is the term, Small business pain relief. Can you imagine your reaction when you hear something like that? The human mind is intensely curious and a marketing statement like that is pure bait. You want to know what pain relief she brings and how she goes about it-specially if you're the one in pain. That's only half the story. The construction of the message elevates her from simple number crunching to brain surgery and makes her unique. If you want differentiation you need look no further than the guiding light of Santa's sleigh-- Rudolph, with his shiny nose. Can you even remember the names of the rest of the eight reindeer? One very important point, however, is that the marketing message isn't just different, but also customer-oriented. Rose takes the clutter out of administration and Rudolph provides a beacon for clearer navigation. If you don't have a benefit for the customer, just being different is going to get you nowhere. Give and You Shall Receive How many of you are out there networking like crazy? Trying desperately to fill in your steadily depleting bank reserves? You want, want, want! Take a look at Santa's style. He's into giving first. If you probe deep into your mind, you'll find the people you like best are those who have given you their time, their money or their knowledge. You trust them, and it's very hard to say no when they ask you for a favour in return. The deepest core of human emotions is fear. Every single product or service, without exception, is sold on the basis of turgid fear. The only known antidote to fear is TRUST. When trusts struts upwards, fear banishes itself to penguin land. The more you pile up the trust, the more you can do business. Wouldn't Santa be able to sell you just about anything? Would he be able to cross-sell and up-sell product? Santa could knock on your door next summer and you'd be more than happy to have him join your barbeque. It's up to you to build up the trust one Lego block at a time. Identify your clients and see what you can give them. It could be information, time or even a chocolate covered scrumptious cookie. It's the old 'What's in it for me?' theory. If you can't find something calorie-ridden for their minds or bodies, they won't want to see you. Play Santa. It works. He Knows if You've Been Bad or Good... Heck Santa knows his customers. He even knows when you are sleeping, or awake. Then, there's you. Look at your biggest customer. What's her name? When is her birthday? Does she like Indian curries or sushi? In curries can she handle hot or medium? What does she think about you? What doesn't she like? You're guessing for sure. You can't be dead certain because you've been so busy looking at dollar signs that you've missed the plot completely. The reason why Santa's marketing works is because he intimately knows your individual needs. If you want a drum kit, you get one. If you want a Barbie, you don't end up sulking with a xylophone. Santa knows because he's interested in giving. To give, you have to know exactly what the receiver wants or your gift is not worth the packaging it's wrapped in. Some people worry about invading personal privacy. Hogwash! When was the last time you got upset because a supplier turned up with a big chocolate cake (your favourite) for your birthday? or with rare stamps for your son (because he loves collecting stamps)? Santa's invades our privacy gently and uses it to give, not to take. That's why we don't mind it. The tax department on the other hand, uses our information to take and therein lies the principal difference. Once a Customer, Always a Customer Santa Doesn't Lose Customers. Period. One of the primary reasons why he's able to achieve this amazing feat is because he thinks of his customer's customer. His customer is the kid, who in a few years gets a little wiser about Santa and his customer's customer is the parent who has the amazing power to get their children to be nice not naughty, if only for a short while. Since the concept works in their favour, they do all the advertising. Without TV, radio or the internet, Santa's message gets a grip on millions of kids around the planet. These kids grow up and the marvel of Santa is handed down through the generations. While It's OK For Santa, How Would This Work In The Real World? Say, If You Sold Jeans. Jeans West, a jean retailer, has several of the answers. I needed one pair, but Stephanie (the sales girl) sold me two--not by hassling me, but by gently reminding me I would get $20 off the second pair. Then, with my purchase, she gave me a gift voucher of $10, for my use or to pass on. They, also signed me up for a loyalty program that offered to give me a 10% discount if I purchased over $250 worth of product in the next 6 months. This Is Effectively What Jeans West Did to Make Me a Permanent Customer. Step 1: The sales person asked the right questions to find out my need.
Step 2: She up-sold the product giving me good value for money.
Step 3: A gift voucher with a validity date, ensured an additional purchase. Or even better, the chance for me to pass it on to another person thus 'creating a customer' for Jeans West.
Step 4: Tying my fickle consumer head into a loyalty scheme. They wanted me to stay with them forever. Santa's steps may vary, but in essence he ties you into a solid loyalty program that is near impossible to get off. It's 'customer get customer', rather than 'advertising get customer.' It's cheaper and it works! In conclusion here are the main points why Santa's customers keeps coming back. These concepts may sound old, even trite, but have been proven time after time to work well. Test them against your company and brand to see where you can learn from the man from the North Pole. 1) Solid branding: We're not talking lease here. Consistency is the key. This applies everywhere from networking meetings, advertising to any sort of communication that goes out. Keep hammering home the same unique message and put it up front. The weather changes all the time which is why we can't trust it. If you must change, it's because your old message isn't doing a complete job. I changed our first baseline from 'Recession proof business principles' to 'Reactivating dormant business clients.'
The proposition was the same but the second line got 10 times the response. 2) Differentiation: Santa knows he can be a courier with a difference. You, too, can create your own legend. Nike used Just Do It. Coke threw in the concept, Rum and Coke, indelibly burning the word classic into our consciousness. Sameness is in your mind. No matter how many brands exist on the market, your product has a fingerprint of its own. You just have to dig deep to find out. 3) Build trust by giving first. Life is all about sowing, then reaping-but sowing comes first. If you don't give first, you will only get limited results. The more you stop thinking of yourself and focus on what the customer needs instead, the more you are trusted. Business is all about trust. If you don't have it, you're yesterday's soup. 4) Know your customer... Like you know the hair on your head. Data collection and its optimum usage will get you right into their minds and keep you permanently rooted in. Every time they see you, they should think you are Santa coming to town. 5) Reactivate dormant clients They are all volcanoes. Sitting there with the power to erupt mightily. Figure out who they are and how you can work in tandem with them. Forget your product or service. That's a given-- It has to be good. Find out the 'everything else' factor and you will keep them for life. Like Santa does... Wouldn't you love to stumble upon a secret library of small business ideas? Football Betting Tips
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anthony_LeMaire]Anthony LeMaire Football betting is a bit less of a gamble than other types of betting. Its not quite the crap shoot of, well, craps because the bettor has an opportunity to gauge the quality of each and every team. That being said, there are some football betting tips that can help you get the most out of the weeks games. While no betting system is foolproof, these football betting tips will help you come out ahead. First, dont get greedy. Gamblers all want to have the big win, but try not to put all your eggs in one basket. So long as you get a series of wins, you should come out ahead. Its recommended that you put smaller bets on a wider variety of games, rather than put one huge bet on a single gameunless you think the game is a lock. Unfortunately, the spread set by odds makers for any game is rarely a lock. A couple of other football betting tips: find a good online site and do your homework. You want to find that makes good on payouts in a timely manner. Often, gamblers are disappointed to find that they are not immediately credited to their bank account. This can be the case if you dont make bets directly from your debit card. It can sometimes take weeks, or even months, to be credited if you dont bet with a quality site. You need to research both online gambling sites as well as the teams youll be betting on. Professional gamblers sometimes work full time researching the weeks games. This is not quite feasible for everybody, but try your best to research the game before you make a bet. One of the better football gambling tips is to subtract from the spread of the favorite, rather than adding to the total of the loser. More often than not, this will lead to a win for the bettor. Becoming The Obvious Choice In A Sea Of Competition
By Rich Harshaw Differentiation, niche marketing, and positioning. These and other related business buzzwords have no doubt crossed every business owner and marketing director's ears in recent years. But what do these words really mean to you in your business? Usually they mean that a business will attempt to sell a product or service that is somehow different than the competition's to a certain, specific target market. In theory, this is a great idea. If you could just reach that one segment of the market with your great, new, innovative product... Welcome to reality. If your company is innovative enough to develop a truly unique product or service that is earning you a profit, the following inevitably happens: competition springs up from nowhere to imitate your product or service, undersell your price, and steal your market share. It's immutable. So as your next line of defense, you choose to position yourself as the quality leader within your field. Or as the low price leader. Or as the service king. You soon find yourself in a battle with four other companies - all claiming to have the largest selection, lowest prices, highest quality or best service. A marketing free-for-all usually ensues. Each competitor tries in vain to shout with the loudest voice that his business is superior. Headlines get bigger, radio ads get more obnoxious, advertising agencies get richer. More significantly, customers begin to discount any claim made by any of the companies. Is niche marketing the way to go then? Obviously, different is better than "me too." The question isn't whether or not to be different, but rather how to communicate those differences in a way that your customers will believe and embrace them. Your Real Opportunity for Innovation Lies in the Marketing. Here's What Marketing Really Is... You need to realize three things about business to understand marketing. These three things are always true, regardless of what industry you're in: 1) All businesses do just one thing: They Woo Customers - Period. 2) All customers want just one thing: The Best Deal - Period. 3) Your marketing should do just one thing: Articulate Why You're The Best Deal - Period. You can build confidence if you articulate your advantage. This is not a complicated thing. If you dispute any of the three points, please call me to discuss it at once. I don't want to be wrong about such simple stuff. But if this is such simple stuff...then why do most businesses have so much trouble executing a decent marketing plan? I say it's because, in general, we are lazy communicators. See if this scenario sounds familiar. When you get home from work, your spouse asks you how your day was. What do you usually say? Fine, okay, I'm tired, great, it stunk. Do these words actually communicate anything? What about when you see someone you know at the store and you ask, "Whatcha doin'?" (as if you really care or can't tell by looking) and he answers, "Fine," which is actually the answer to the other question he was expecting, which is "How ya doin'?" We are a society of lazy communicators...we are on communication autopilot. Don't think, just talk. These communication habits spill over into marketing and advertising all the time. Show me 99% of all marketing material created and I'll show you a huge jumble of hyperbole, fluff, platitudes, and yawnably unbelievable, black hole nothing words. Words like cheapest, professionalism, service, quality, speedy, convenient, and best. These words do absolutely nothing to communicate why you're the best deal. NOTHING. Claude Hopkins, the greatest advertising man in history, summed it up: "Platitudes and generalities roll off the human understanding like water from a duck. They leave no impression whatever." Consider an example. The city I live in has just over 150,000 people. The local yellow page directory lists a whopping 81 companies that repair air conditioners. Of those, 34 spend from $300 to $5,000 a month for space ads in addition to the regular category listing. Some of the advertisers claim to be "the" experts. Most tell me in bullet points that they only charge one low rate, even if service is needed after hours or on weekends. Almost all of them tout that they fix all major brands. None of them, however, give me a compelling reason why I should call them instead of their competitors. The "unique" claims of each company have become generic, unappealing, and meaningless to the prospect...who is just waiting to be sold. Surprisingly, very few businesses really make more than a token attempt to distinguish themselves from their competitors. Once a company stakes out a position in the marketplace, the usual strategy is to foolishly proclaim to all potential customers, "Here we are, now give us all the business that you have been giving to our competition...for no justifiable, rational reason." Fortunately, you can cash in on what your competitors are doing wrong. The most powerful tool you can use to stand head and shoulders above your competition is the Articulated Sales Argument (ASA). Your ASA is the singular, unique benefit that your customers can expect to receive when they favor your business instead of your competitor's - stated in specific, graphically illustrated terms. An air conditioning repair company I know of in Las Vegas harnessed the power of the ASA and tripled the size of its business in less than a year. Before developing and implementing an ASA, the company had been guilty of running "me too" advertising. Their yellow page ad (where 90% of their business came from) had the company name plastered across the top in huge letters. Bullet points let everyone know that they provided 24-hour service, they serviced most major brands, they had 22 years of experience, etc. Because everyone else's ad said essentially the same thing and since their ad was relatively large, they were able to build a respectable business in spite of their "me too" approach. Each year, they were able to generate enough revenue to do the following: 1. Add a new truck or two to their fleet. 2. Keep their repairmen busy most of the time. 3. Generate a small profit for the owners. 4. Continue to run the advertisement. What more could small business owners ask for? A lot more! The first step in developing their ASA was to determine what customers wanted most from an air conditioning repair company. In the 8 month long Las Vegas summer even a couple of hours without an air conditioner is sheer misery. Customer surveys confirmed their notion - fast service was to be the premise for their ASA. But everyone else already claimed to have fast service. Some companies even put FAST SERVICE in big headlines at the top of their ads. It wasn't as if nobody else had ever figured out that being fast was important. The funny thing was that nobody else had ever figured out a way to say it in a way that would allow them to stand head and shoulders above the competition. The next year they ran a half page ad as usual (no additional expense), but changed the wording to say, "Because we have 58 repairmen on call 24 hours a day to man our 27 service trucks, we can guarantee that your home or business will be cool within 2 hours of your call - or there's no charge for the repair." And that was just the headline! The rest of the ad went on to explain that if the crews were too busy to fix the unit right then or if the repair would take longer than 2 hours, portable units would be brought in to cool the house at no extra charge until the repair was completed. Bottom line, the customer would be cool in a hurry - period. The company put a lot of faith in their new ASA based on previous test results - they actually only had 17 repair trucks and about 40 technicians when they first placed the ad. They were counting on the ad to generate enough business to afford them the additional trucks and personnel. The number of calls the ad generated quadrupled in less than one month after the new book came out. More importantly, they were able to convert 50% of the calls into jobs - up from 38% before. Gross revenues soared and new trucks were bought to keep up with demand. The end of the year profit for the owners was higher than they thought they would ever see. Their integration of the ASA "fast service" was the key element in the company's turnaround. Obviously, other factors contributed as well, like the company's underlying dedication to fulfilling the "big promise" of fast service. But the point is a simple headline stating the ASA "fast service" increased their bottom line by over 400% with no additional advertising cost. What's Your ASA? The ASA really is the keystone of all your marketing. Everything else depends on it. Private Practice Marketing: Getting on the Radio
By Jeff Herring For years I've been fortunate enough to be able to be on the radio two times a week. A local morning team on the number one morning show in town have me on each Monday and Wednesday for about 5 minutes each time. As a marriage and family therapist, it's a fantastic way to market my private practice. Many people have asked me why in the world I drive over there twice a week. I usually respond by asking them do they know how much it would cost to buy 10 minutes of advertising on the radio each week? Advantages of appearing on the radio There are several advantages to being on the radio as a therapist: 1. It ups your expert-ability - When you are on the air, you are automatically seen as an expert. Listeners figure that the station would not have you on if you did not know what you were talking about. 2. You reach a larger audience - When you give a presentation to a group, you are limited to reaching only those in the room. When you are on the radio, you can reach an almost unlimited number of listeners. 3. Listeners quickly come to know, like and trust you - When you give good information that people use right away, listeners will come to know, like and trust you. And people like to do business with those they know, like and trust. Exhibition Displays
By Graham Croston Imagination is one of the most important considerations in producing eye-catching and appealing displays.
Don't be afraid to do something different. The more distinctive your exhibition display, the more your customers
will remember it. Have a Theme Instead of using an ad hoc approach to the displays in your exhibition; you would be better served to establish
an overall theme that will unite your products. All displays of products need not look exactly alike, but
they should be compatible or blend in with each other.
This theme can go in many directions; its determined mainly by the products you want to sell and the customers
you are trying to attract.
Have you ever been to an exhibitor's stand that really turned you off because the displays were random or
uncoordinated and made you not want to come back? Naturally, you want yours to have the opposite effect
and you want the look to be as distinctively yours as possible. Planning & Preparation Planning all the details of your display stands well as long before the event as possible is vital.
Find out the size of the space you have been allocated
Are there any restrictions on height?
Can you fix anything to walls?
Are any power sockets available on the space? If so how many?
Laptops for presentations if no power points available ensure you have adequate supplies of
battery cells ensure all are fully charged the day before.
Ensure you have sourced and purchased all equipment well in advance. Practice setting up your display,
make notes where you wish to display your key products, trying to emphasise their unique selling points to
your visitors. All personnel should be familiar with setting-up the stand, as this saves you valuable time on
the day of the exhibition.
It is important to remember that some venues have a fixed length of time in which you must have your
stands built. And at the completion of the exhibition, you may have a fixed time slot to pack your display
stand away, leaving your space in a tidy condition. Always check with the venue or organisers for time periods,
and whether it is your responsibility to remove any rubbish, etc. Attention to Detail Attractive leaflet and brochure displays are important tools in providing customers with vital and informative
details about your products and/or services.
You may consider the use of competitions to attract visitors to your stands. If so, then you could provide
competition boxes to submit slips in, or you may wish to have a box to collect business cards or suggestion
slips in. Digital Displays Incorporating movement into your display can increase your sales by as much as 317% (source POPAI).
Sound, film and pictures together - keep it simple.
What are the first thing new customers do when they enter your exhibition stand?
They form an impression of your company based on the atmosphere you've created. A Digital Screen presentation
on your company, products and services will say a lot about you. Portable Display Stand Systems You should also consider the use of pop-up display systems: these can be up in minutes. A pop-up display
stand provides maximum portability with exceptional visual impact. Wherever you have a sales opportunity,
a pop-up display stand provides an instant presence.
Roll-up banner stand systems are also easy to use and transport. Roll-up banner stand systems provide a
high-profile presence and brand/image support to:
an exhibition stand
in the foyer or reception area to an event or office
at seminars and conferences as supplementary focus points. Flexible panel display systems are perfect backdrops for your exhibitions. Portable panel systems let you
create stylish portable displays with flexible portable panel options. Flexibility comes first with the folding
panel displays and portable panel displays that can be reconfigured to change your display to suit your
space. A wide range of accessories and finishes are available too. Manning the Stand staffing the stand at all times is very important. The personnel should be dressed smartly, be friendly and
have a thorough knowledge of the products and/or services. They should be experienced and know when to
approach the visitor: if they do it too early, they can create a pressure sales environment, and if they do it too
late, the visitor may feel you are not interested in them and move on to another stand.
Always ensure adequate personnel are available on the stand at all times. Otherwise, if you get a large influx
of visitors at once, you will not be able to provide the high standard and professional image you wish your company to have. Conclusion These are just a few of the things to consider and remember before your next exhibition, seminar, trade show,
or other event you may be attending. Article by Graham Croston who may be contacted through http://www.gjplastics.co.uk
